What we do

We take official, public U.S. energy data (state electricity prices from the Energy Information Administration and rated energy use from the EPA's ENERGY STAR program) and turn it into per-hour, per-month and per-year costs, with the formula and sources on every page.

What we don't do

• We don't run a test lab and we don't claim hands-on testing of products.
• We don't sell appliances or energy plans, and nobody pays us to recommend a brand.
• We don't give financial, legal or safety advice for your specific situation. For safety questions, follow the manufacturer's instructions and your local codes.
